Through the years Newnan and Coweta County have been blessed to have outstanding educators who worked diligently to improve our school system and improve the quality of education our young people received.

There aren't too many special events that can attract tourists and show off a town more than to have "Southern Living" magazine choose your town as the site to build an Idea House.

In the past 15 years, one of the more amazing success stories in our community has been the Newnan/Coweta Boys and Girls Club.

With cities and towns all around us having budget difficulties, we have been so very fortunate not to have had a tax increase here in Newnan and Coweta County in some time.

On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I offer congratulations to Coweta Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Allen B. Keeble on his decision to retire from his full-time position and take senior judge status at the end of his current term.

If you know a person younger than you (any age), you would be helping them by informing them they need to use a 401(k), IRA and /or Roth IRA account to invest for retirement.

Conservative writer Lawrence Reed lamented the fall of the U.S. to 10th in the world in regard to freedom. However, this so-called fall was according to an Index of Economic Freedom, released by the Heritage Foundation and The Wall Street Journal. The Heritage Foundation is a conservative think tank based in Washington, D.C., whose stated mission is to "formulate and promote conservative public policies ..." Along with The Wall Street Journal, the Heritage Foundation set up the criteria for judging and also served as judges.

In my humble opinion President Obama was elected because he was black and gifted with an excellent reading ability. In my yet humble opinion, he should be soundly defeated in November as he has proven himself to be useless as president. He has violated our Constitution, lied, grown government by leaps and bounds, put us deeply in debt, and divided the population as no one before him.

Presidential recipe: What America needs on election day is less charisma and more character and a person who believes in individual freedom, free enterprise and American exceptionalism.
.....
Bypass potholes: I have to drive over 20 potholes just to come into my neighborhood, due to the bypass construction tearing up our entrance. Someone should be required to smooth out the business and neighborhood entrances every morning.
.....
Where's van for vets? Can anyone tell me why Coweta does not have a van shuttle service to transport disabled veterans to the VA medical center in Decatur? I have to go to Hogansville and catch the Troup County van on the days I have appointments.
.....
Addy winner from Newnan: The 2012 Addy's award for the Atlanta region was presented to Joseph Ragsdale of Newnan. He's currently attending the Atlanta Art Institute. Parents Paul and Carol Ragsdale couldn't be more proud.
.....
Teacher appointments: Except in the case of illness, teachers have 175 days off per year to schedule routine doctor appointments. I can't see why any teacher would need to schedule routine checkups on a school day. Again, unexpected illness is another story.
.....
Do it yourself: If these "occupy" people put out any kind of effort at all, they have youth, vigor and intellect on their side. Quit whining/begging and build your own home, establish your own business and be happy living life on your own and not on aid.
.....
Outrage: Women should be outraged at the Catholic and GOP attitudes concerning their reproductive health.
.....
Another politician: The masses voted for President Obama because he preached to the masses what they needed to hear, but he never walked in our shoes. He has led a pampered life -- not even a job -- just another politician.
.....
Why Newt? It's disgusting to say "Hooray for Newt." Why is everyone so OK with him cheating on his wives?
.....
Stop whining: Want to know why I don't get angry about WIC and food stamps? Because all children need to eat, regardless of their parents. Did you know people foster and adopt kids and get lots of money for it, too? Stop whining and demonizing the poor.
.....
Pick Newt: I agree that President Obama is a great leader. He's led this country so far down the road of no return we will never see the light of day. Any of the Republicans would be a better choice, but Newt seems the one who can get us on track.
.....
Visual arts: As a taxpayer I hope the new education plan to increase the quality on instruction in all subject areas will include the visual arts in Coweta County public schools, and improve teacher quality.
.....
Georgians beware: A vote for Newt Gingrich will put President Obama back into the White House for four more years. How could you support Gingrich, who has no morals? Mitt Romney is best choice.
.....
A vote for Santorum: I will proudly cast my vote for Rick Santorum because he best represents our Christian morals. Even if he does not carry Georgia, my vote will be saying I believe in truth, the Bible and honesty.
